dearest Siggi–very sad–your comments could be made into a tanka?
Terra — Your father sounds amazing. You inherited his wondergenes.
So sorry about your dad. My dad also got hooked when he was in the Navy. He finally quit in his early 40s. Later became a marathon runner until he was in his early 60s. He passed last year at 92 from Covid complications. Sometimes there is no fairness in endings. But there are many ways to rise above it. Writing is one way. Really loved your poem.
Yes, indeed. I was a closet smoker because I was a fitness instructor and my husband hated smokers. So fortunately I couldn’t smoke out in the open too much. But still it was so hard to quit. Harder than quitting hard drugs as I am told.
My father got hooked in combat WW2. Cigarettes along with chocolate and beer were rations. I watched him die on breathing support in the hospital. For two months unable to talk or move — he died of emphysema.
So many people hooked for a lifetime ..
some get free, rise.
others sadly, continue to their last breath.
Peace and love, Siggi
movement from where we were to where we go…then keep going. thank you.
