I love writing--It's my joy, my therapy--my confession. I'm a performer, dancer, yoga and meditation instructor, write a poetry column for Rafu Shimpo. Growth and love of life is a key to my happiness.

Janis had a major stroke and doesn’t get out much anymore. I call her once in a while. I will call again soon.

  2. Hey Genie, The haiku event is 1 PM Sunday. It is the Southern California HAiku Study Group, and I’m sure you would be welcome even if you write mostly tanka. It is our poetry party! Please join us! There is also a group that meets regularly at the Storrier Stearns Japanese Garden in Pasadena. They specialize in tanka, but write cherita and haiku and read all kinds of poetry. We used to meet regularly at the library in Pasadena until the pandemic, but still meet on Zoom. Say Hi to Janis! I haven’t seen her recently, but she used to come to our monthly meetings at the library. I haven’t hear from Sidewalk Poetry, but I think they replied last year in MArch. This is what I sent:

    mad scientists club
    hits escape velocity
    as boys and girls watch
    their bottle rockets vanish
past the trees into blue sky

  4. Hi Genie, This is a nursing home? Is this a relative?  When Mom was in a nursing home with dementia, there were 10 WW2 Veterans, including one from the 442. I was able to arrange a field trip to the Coast Guard base in San Pedrowhere they were given a great tour of base, a cutter, and a lunch in the commissary sponsored by the Petty Officers Association.  Hope you can make it to the schsg haiku part this Sunday. V/r, Charles Harm
