if i were young again…

(Today in L.A. June 2, 2020 1,200 People arrested)

if i were young again
i'd be in los angeles streets
a thug, running Nikes
not thinking about death
but now
two unbalanced hip replacements
i can't run or scale a wall
 my wall is fear
give me two strong legs
a beating heart that scales barbed wire
a sense not bound by rationality
my anger has turned to tears
what good are they
for a world on fire

if i were young i'd be in jail
but i am old
and losing hope
1965 Watts riots,
I was in High School
1992 Rodney king
my L.A. curfewed after dark
63 dead and 1,036 homicide in the year of 1992
forgotten,
shuffled in paper

Yes, it's gotten worse
is praying really enuff
sitting on my ass in meditation

If i were young again, i'd be dead.

I love writing--It's my joy, my therapy--my confession. I'm a performer, dancer, yoga and meditation instructor, write a poetry column for Rafu Shimpo. Growth and love of life is a key to my happiness.
